JMC Omega 3 Fatty Acids and Alzheimer’s

JMC Restorative Medicine’s doctors are always on top of the latest nutraceutical research that can help improve your health. A meta-analysis study out of China looked at homocysteine levels ( the higher the more prone to Alzheimer’s) and omega-3 fatty acids. The researchers found that higher consumption of omega-3 fatty acids was directly related to decreased levels of homocysteine and decreased memory loss over time.

Good quality nutraceuticals is a staple of our practice. Come by JMC Restorative Medicine anytime for our omega-3 fatty acids or to have your homocysteine levels drawn to see your possible risk for Alzheimer’s disease.

Vitamin B deficiency, P-5-P,Neuropathies and Autism in Miami

Miami and our country as a whole has seen an increasing number of autism cases. At JMC Restorative Medicine , in keeping up with the latest in evaluation and treatment of autism and any syndrome that could be associated to a malabsorptive state, now bring yopu a new supplement, P-5-P- the metabolically active form of Vitamin B6. Vtamin B6 is found in three forms- pyridoxine, pyridoxal and pyridoxamine. All of these must be convertedinto the activated pyridoxal-5-phosphate-P-5-P which is the form of Vtiamin B6 thatt the body actually uses.P-5-P is necessary for the production of GABA, the conversion of 5-HTP to serotonin and the decarboxylation of L-DOPA to dopamine. It is also needed for glucose production, as well as amino acid and lipid metabolism.

At JMC Restorative Medicine we recommend P-5-P for people whose ability to convert vitamin B-6 into this active coenzyme is impaired, as seen with the elderly, children with Autism, and those with celiac disease or impaired liver function. It may also be useful for patients who need higher doses and maximum absorption of vitamin B-6 such as : Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Peripheral Neuropathies, Edema, PMS, water retention , morning sickness, high homocysteine levels – as in patients predisposed to Alzheimer’s disease, gestational and Type 2 Diabetes.
